MLC week7

Critical thinking 1

I had found some information from internet, Media literacy is the process of accessing, analyzing, evaluating and creating messages in a wide variety of media modes, genres and forms. It uses an inquiry-based instructional model that encourages people to ask question about what they watch, see, and read. It also provides tools to help people critically analyze messages to detect propaganda, censorship, and bias in news and public affairs programming, and to understand how structural features. As a conclusion, Media literacy is an expended conceptualization of literacy.

Critical thinking 2

In my opinion, Media literacy is very important for FCM students to have it, because of Media literacy aims to enable people to be skillful creators and producers of media messages, both to facilitate an understanding as to the strengths and limitations of each medium, as well as to create independent media.

MLC week6

Critical thinking 1
I had read the article on media stereotype that upload at mmls. For me, media stereotype is the images are both representations and producers of the ideologies of their time, they are also factors of relations of power. That stereotypes can pretty much be considered the same everywhere: simplified, reductive generalizations of an individual or group of individuals. Stereotypes in cartoons operate in a manner different than most other forms of portrayals due to the images being exaggerated. This is the way stereotype is experienced varies within media. The animated cartoon so strongly relies on caricature and exaggeration, it has received a special amount of criticism. Results from studies by qualified scholars have shown that, in general, stereotyping of another race serves as effective vehicle for others to enhance their own self-esteem and to acquire a sense of personal power and perhaps to reinforce their own feeling of inherent superiority. From my own experience, other media stereotype that I had seen either on TV or in the movie is Doremon. The stories are formulaic, usually focused on the everyday struggles of fourth grader Nobita, the protagonist of the story. When Nobita is crying about a problem, Doraemon always offers helpful advice to his problem. Doraemon produces a futuristic gadget out of his aforementioned pouch to help Nobita fix his problem, enact revenge, or flaunt to his friends. However, by the end of the story, there is usually retribution to the characters who end up misusing them, and a moral is taught.

Personal thinking

This week had no class, because of the public holiday.

MLC week5

Critical thinking 1
From the question, my answer was YES, because when we want to know or search something, the internet was the easier way to search. If we are doing research for something, there were many way to search, for example, Google search, Yahoo search, Live search and so on. Google search was the most popular in the world. Much of the information can search form there even some uncommon information. So, internet was very convenience for us.

Critical thinking 2
But we don’t know the information or news was fake. The comic that taken form "Introduction to Mass Communication: Media Literacy and Culture" by Stanley Baran are show that something from the internet cannot be trust. Some information or news was fake, it’s created by someone. Although the news or article are came for some popular web site, the reliability are not hundred percent and the information may be are wrong. Because we don’t know the information wrote by whom and post by whom also. Many fake information which are created by someone are very interesting and funny, may be the wish to share with other through internet, so they post it up to internet to share, but we don’t know that the information or news was fake, some people will trust it and believe it, and they will tell their friends and family about this information or news, it’s makes like a rumor, spread far. Rumors, lies and innuendo spread far, wide, and fast on the internet, because the internet are very abroad.

Personal thinking
